Photography as a tool to express…

Today, many people do selfie.  A year ago on Valentine’s day dinner cruise in London, I saw a lady who took many selfie during a romantic dinner with her boyfriend.  Honestly, I felt bad for her boyfriend.  Nothing against taking selfie, I do that, too! Fun! However, this is not this post is about.  I am old school.  In the earlier period of learning photography, we called it a self-portrait.  It was ‘10sec run’ from pushing the button on the camera and ran back to post.  The early digital camera, not the pro-level either,  wasn’t as advanced. However, the challenge was great. Photography was my tool to find my beauty through the lens, lighting and discovering self.  I started to help others.  Beauty isn’t just about the body and the face.  Each person defines its own meaning of beauty.  Some women need to be as strong as men, at least mentally, in the workforce.  When I photography women or myself, it is a place where women can truly show their feminine side and leave all the tasks behind. Be true to themselves, discover themselves, or allow their imagination to create and be captured! I always point out one thing, beauty isn’t just about the face and the body. Here is an example:

Example of Beauty

People challenge me the idea of using Photoshop. In my opinion, photo editing is enhancing what’s already capture. That’s what I use it for!  Not to getting rid of wrinkles and make the face shape different because it lost the meaning of capturing beauty or the essence at that moment.  It is no longer true.  Photo manipulation is fun and it is creating through imagination or creative mind to express or just for fun! Sometimes, I combine the two to create!

For people who experience depression or having dark thoughts, I always encourage them to express instead of holding it in. No need to explain! People will always criticized a photo, good or bad.  However, it is still a safe tool to use because no one knows what you are truly thinking.

There are many different types of photography just like different types of bloggers.  Since I started my own blog, I find that some of us have a common goal which is to reach out to others to create happiness, hope or letting others know that they are not alone.
